I’m not sure why, but most of the Christmas decorations I’ve seen here have a sinister quality to them. A window I pass on the way to work shows Santa’s little helper strangling a polar bear cub. What I assume are elves look like Gollum clones with hair plugs and pointy red hats. Even Santa, who has an intrinsic creepiness factor based on his abilities to stalk children and break into houses, isn’t safe. He’s left to literally twist in the wind as people hang him in effigy off their balconies. The three kings, an important part of the Spanish holiday season, also share a similar fate.
